DAPHNE LAB has also been offering DNA tests for several years, including Celiac Disease and Lactose Intolerance tests, and ELgenetix ™, a nutrigenetics test, analyzing 21 genetic variations.
The genetic material represents our digital imprint, therefore DNA tests, from an analytical point of view, are among the tests with greater scientific validity. From biological samples and genetic sequences it is even possible to reconstruct a face and in fact DNA tests are used in the forensic field to resolve investigations on specific crime scenes. DNA tests involve the search for specific genetic sequences called microsatellite loci, in which the same sequence of two or five letters is repeated. What is interesting in the research is not the composition of the nucleotide sequence, but the length of these repetitive sequences, which varies randomly, from individual to individual, thus constituting a trait of uniqueness. The biological samples used for DNA tests are: saliva, hair, blood, seminal fluid. If the biological traces are well preserved, they can be analyzed even after several years. The reliability of the DNA test is very high, or 99%. 100% is difficult to reach due to mathematical reasons, since the method applied is statistical and the probability that the DNA of two different individuals is the same is 0.0000000000001%, practically nothing.
The reliability of DNA tests is also confirmed by the law; in 2004 the Italian Supreme Court of Cassation declared that the results of a genetic investigation conducted on DNA present an infinitesimal possibility of error, demonstrated by the high number of confirmatory statistical data.
